Adult Braces Before And After: Which Orthodontics Are For You?
More and more adults are adopting braces to straighten their teeth and correct their bites, and when you look at adult braces before and after pictures, it’s no surprise. Advances in modern orthodontics mean there is no reason to endure crooked teeth any longer.
And, as modern living has made us more conscious of how we look like when we smile, the demand for adult braces is only increasing. For those of us who did not have the opportunity to wear braces as teenagers, or who have experienced crooked teeth developing as adults, braces are now easier than ever before.
Thanks to the development of brands like Invisalign, adults have a more discreet way of straightening their teeth. So before you commit to adult orthodontics, what kind of results can you expect after braces?
Before: Crooked Teeth Or A Misaligned Bite
You will have an assessment, where your dentist will take x rays of your mouth and discuss your lifestyle and personal needs. Based on this assessment you will be presented with a treatment plan outlining the steps that need to be taken to straighten your smile. Your dentist will discuss your options for adult braces and show you before and after pictures of other patients who have had similar orthodontic treatment. You will also be given a complete costing for the entire treatment.
Solution 1: Traditional Adult Braces
These are the metal braces you are probably most familiar with although modern designs are less bulky than they used to be.
What can you expect after traditional braces?
Treatment time is usually the shortest with conventional or traditional braces, but the results are very noticeable. If you follow your dentist’s instructions you can expect a straighter smile within the timeline recommended in your treatment plan.
Solution 2: Aligners
Aligners are invisible trays that are custom made for the shape of your mouth. You need new aligners every two weeks because they change as your teeth move into position. Aligners need to be worn at least 20 to 22 hours a day to achieve your desired result. Aligners are not likely to be prescribed to correct major problems with your bite. What can you expect after wearing aligners? It’s very important that you change trays every second week and that you wear them all the time, only taking them out for eating and when you’re brushing your teeth. If you don’t follow your dentist’s instructions, your teeth might not be as straight as you expected after treatment and you may need to wear them for longer. .
Solution 3: Lingual Adult Braces
Lingual braces are more discreet than traditional braces because they are fitted to the back of your teeth. They exert gentle pressure onto your teeth and can be used to treat problems with your bite, misaligned teeth and fix gaps and crowding in your mouth.
What can you expect after wearing braces?
Apart from some speech adaptation, wearing lingual braces requires little change from you. Most patients are satisfied with their results at the end of the treatment plan, when they have followed their care instructions and maintained all their orthodontic appointments.
