Chairside Pola Teeth Whitening – How Does It Work
Although teeth whitening is considered a cosmetic dentistry procedure, it has become necessary for more patients as societal pressures regarding our looks continue to rise. That’s why at Dentistry on Solent, we offer both in-chair and at-home professional teeth whitening treatments, including the pola teeth whitening kit.
Why Choose In-Office Teeth Whitening?
Although at-home teeth whitening is always an option and is better than over-the-counter formulas, it will take up to two weeks to see results.
The highest, most effective formula, containing 37.5% hydrogen peroxide, is only accessible at your dentist office.
The strong whitening gel formulas can have a higher risk of gum irritation or damage since the active ingredients are so potent. Such strong treatments need to be applied by a dentistry professional who is well versed in whitening treatments.
How Does Professional Teeth Whitening Compare to Over-The-Counter Formulas?
Professional teeth whitening formulas are much ber and effective at eliminating both surface and embedded stains in natural teeth. At a chemist, you will only find teeth whitening strips or formulas with minute amounts of hydrogen peroxide. Not to mention, at-home teeth whitening strips can take weeks before you start seeing results.
Who Are Candidates for Teeth Whitening?
Anyone over the age of 18, who isn’t pregnant, or breastfeeding can receive teeth whitening at Dentistry on Solent.
Should you have any concerns about your oral health and how it could be affected by a whitening treatment, don’t hesitate to contact our team for an in-depth consultation.
Pola Teeth Whitening at Dentistry on Solent
Treatments with pola teeth whitening are extremely easy, quick, and effective and take no longer than the standard lunch hour!
Following an initial consultation with Dr Rai, you will have all the information you need to make your final decision about in-office teeth whitening and if pola is the most suitable treatment method for your needs. Should you prefer another treatment, we also offer the Opalescence and Zoom brands in addition to standard at-home whitening treatments.
At your teeth whitening appointment, your gums and lips will be covered with a rubber dam for protection. This dam also exposes your teeth as much as possible, so they are ready to be whitened.
Next, the teeth are covered with the special pola whitening gel which releases the active whitening ingredient, hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide works to break down surface stains and discolourations from your teeth. Thanks to the high concentration of the gel, the treatment should not take any longer than 30 minutes from start to finish. Although the whitening gel is extremely b, it is also pH-neutral, so patients generally do not feel any discomfort in their teeth or gums during and after treatment.
Due to the special pola desensitising technology, there is a smaller risk of nerve and gum damage as well as prolonged sensitivity. However, the hours directly following the treatment, some patients will experience minor and temporary sensitivity to hot or cold foods. To avoid your experiences of sensitivity, limit your consumption of fizzy drinks as well as citrus food and beverages directly following treatment.
With the pola system, no UV light is required, unlike with other teeth whitening treatments. Although the UV light does not usually cause any discomfort, patients with light sensitivity will prefer pola.
How Long Do the Effects of Professional Teeth Whitening Last?
Our diet and daily habits will eventually start to stain our teeth following a professional teeth whitening treatment. The general rule of thumb is that patients should come in to whiten their teeth every six months to one year.
However, if you drink a lot of coffee and red wine or smoke daily, you may find your teeth need a touch up more often. Getting your teeth whitened regularly does not necessarily pose a risk to your health, as long as the whitening gels are applied correctly by your dentist. As always, Dr Rai and the rest of the Dentistry on Solent team are ready to answer any questions you may have regarding the frequency you should whiten your teeth to keep them looking their best.
